The structures in this photograph are a sign that advertises colored homes. There is also a building to the side of the sign, that could have been a business at one point in time.
5. What is the tone of the photograph?
The tone of the photograph is negative.
6. Write a paragraph explaining your response to this question.
I think that the tone of this photograph is negative because there is a sign that says colored cabins, and that is signaling colored people out. It should just say cabins. That way anybody who wants to stay in them could. Also I kind of get the feeling that they were excluded because the sign is on the highway, when there should be cabins for them in the town.
7. Write two questions that you might ask the photographer or the subjects of the picture if you had the opportunity to learn more about the photograph or / and its subject(s).
The first question that I would ask the photographer would be what is the building next the sign, is it a cabin or and abandoned business? Another question that I would ask would be is there cabins further back from the sign, or is that just saying that there are cabins for colors further along the highway?

I think that the tone of this photo is heavy because I think that it is sad. In my opinion all people should be treated equally no matter what the color of their skin is or how they look. Also if a colored person was to walk in the same door as a white person the white person isn’t going to die, they are all the same, colored people are no different than white people except for the color of their skin.
7. Write two questions that you might ask the photographer or the subjects of the picture if you had the opportunity to learn more about the photograph or / and its subject(s).
The first question that I would ask the photographer is, is there a separation inside of the restaurant, or are there just separate doors for colored people and white people? Another question that I would ask, would be is the other part of the building next to the restaurant, Byrd Bros and Pickett a store or deli?

I think that this photo is positive because this restaurant is open to both whites and coloreds at the same time. This restaurant is telling everyone that it shouldn’t matter the color of your skin, you should be welcomed everywhere.
7. Write two questions that you might ask the photographer or the subjects of the picture if you had the opportunity to learn more about the photograph or / and its subject(s).
The first question that I would ask this photographer would be what is the wooded box on the side of the lunch room? Another question that I would ask would be why does there look like there is garbage thrown in front of the lunch room, and into the swamp?
